At Northern Industrial Manufacturing our double disk grinding expertise enables us to maintain the closest tolerances and achieve the perfect surface finish for your parts. We ensure superior precision and repeatability throughout even the highest volume production runs – at the most rapid turnaround times.
Northern Industrial Manufacturing’s double disk grinding services provide significant advantages to your project’s part production needs. Double disk grinding results in a smooth, uniform finish with high degrees of accuracy. Additional beneficial qualities of precision grinding include versatility, large run capabilities and identical manufacturing.
Our double disk grinding experts knows what options work best for your specific material and surface finish requirements and will adjust our advanced technologies to meet the needs of your unique project. This flexibility enables us to complete high-volume projects as quickly, affordably and efficiently as possible.
Northern Industrial Manufacturing is your turnkey partner for even the most challenging projects. Our extensive array of manufacturing technologies, including our double disk grinding expertise, will bring your parts to market on time – with assistance from prototype to volume production.
Double disc grinding is an operation where two abrasive wheels, parallel and facing each other, grind on opposite sides of a 2-dimensional part. The purpose of this operation is to enhance thickness, parallelism, and flatness tolerances especially for the 2-dimensional parts. Because the double disc grinding operation uses two abrasive wheels instead of one, it removes materials more quickly than Blanchard grinding, which only grinds one side off per operation.
One of the benefits of the double disc grinding operation is that it can be used on ferrous and non-ferrous materials alike, such as steel, aluminum, bronze, and copper. The double disc grinding operation works well with more complex materials such as stainless steel, sintered metals, high strength alloys, and tool steels.
Another benefit of the double disc grinding operation is the minimal internal stress that is applied to the part. Because the two discs grinds on the part in opposite directions, they apply very little residual stress, which is beneficial for the stability of the part, especially if the part needs more machining operations to be performed to finish the fabrication process.
Yet another benefit of the double disc grinding operation is that this operation can be somewhat automated, making it possible to reduce the thickness of part at a fast rates. The automated aspect of this operation makes it possible to create a clean surface finish and maintain tight tolerances. Making the double disc operation highly cost effective.
The double disc operation has many applications. Some of these applications are in the automotive industry, including high quality precision shims. The double disk grinding operation is used to reduce the thickness of the precision shims as well as reinforcing the flatness and parallelism of the precision shims. This is important as precision shims needs to be stacked within the application or in between parts to control quality of assembly.
Northern Industrial Manufacturing is your turnkey partner for even the most challenging projects. Our double disc grinding operations improve and allow us to control the thickness, flatness, and parallelism tolerances on both sides of a part – so we can bring your parts to market on time and within budget.
While there are many companies globally who focus solely on stamping, there are even fewer that have the capability to deliver double disk grinding. At Northern Industrial Manufacturing we pride ourselves on being in the elite category that is highly differentiated to offer both in house.
This vertical integration has allowed us to enhance our supply chain stability, quality, response time, cost control and speed to market. Product coming off of the double disk grinding line at Northern Industrial Manufacturing adheres to the following:
