In an effort to increase our value proposition and enhance our customers ability to produce high volume quality assemblies, we have designed an internal color code scheme. This is especially common for our automotive customers who are commonly requiring high volume production improvements for their assembly line personnel.
Color coding is the process of marking items/objects with colors to identify them from each other. The color coding system is such a simple and flexible system that it can be applied to any industry and even life outside of them to improve organization and coordination.
Color coding especially has applications in the automotive industry, as there are many manufactured automotive parts that use color coding. Color coding is used to differentiate between parts that look really similar, even though they may have slightly different dimensions and parameters. This is to allow workers especially in the automotive industry and heavy duty truck industry to differentiate between parts to insert into the product assembly.
With over ten colors to choose from and the ability to put multiple colors on one part, we can accommodate a wide variety of selective family sizes.
One such type of part that uses the color coding system are high quality, selective fit precision shims. Selective fit precision shims come in many different sizes, with variety to the inner and outer diameters and thicknesses. So it should be no surprise that a shim part of one thickness could easily be mistaken for a shim part of another thickness.
When selective fit precision shims are needed for an automobile or component, the customer ordering the shims, who is the manufacturer of the assembly, will order selective fit precision shims from a certain shim series or family. Each shim series comes with specifications about the dimensions for the inner and outer diameter. The selective fit precision shims are manufactured and color coded for the customer to identify or differentiate. Even if the customer ordered multiple selective fit precision shim parts from different shim series or families, the color coding system can help them identify each of the shim orders and differentiate between them as well.
Color coding selective fit precision shims is a simple but significant system that allows organization of stocks of shims and helps with deliveries of shim orders.
